Soul's Geology

New Hanging from the Collection

In a 17th-century private house at the foot of the Arles bullring, the foundation is pleased to present a new exhibition of the collection, combining a range of photographs on human and non-human identities, reflecting mankind's impact on nature, post-colonial narratives and gender issues, in dialogue with perennial works from the collection and site-specific artist commissions.

“Soul's Geology” evokes the idea that human souls are complex and layered, just like the geology of the Earth. Experiences, emotions and thoughts here are like geological strata, and each stratum reveals a story, a truth or a facet of the soul. The interweaving of post-colonial narratives with gender issues adds further complexity and richness to the title “Geology of Souls”. It suggests that colonial and post-colonial experiences have left deep imprints on the souls of individuals and communities, and that these imprints are still visible today.
